Box Score WEST JORDAN, Utah (Saturday, August 24, 2024) — The fourth-ranked Salt Lake Bruins men's soccer team opened the 2024 season in style, blasting the Cetnral Wyoming Rustlers 4-0.
Erick Jaspers and Ben Maw combined for a clean sheet as SLCC's defense overcame a strong first half headwind.
Canada native Ali Merghemi put the Bruins on the scoreboard midway through the first half to take a one-goal lead into halftime.
With the wind at their backs in the second half, the defending SWAC champion's attack found its way. Sophomore Joon Han put SLCC up two early in the half. Salt Lake had multiple scoring chances in the half, watching shots clang off both posts and the crossbar.
Freshman Diego Ossa and sophomore Gabriel Miranda added goals to finish the 4-0 win.
