Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (Saturday, November 2, 2024)— No. 6 Salt Lake women's soccer team (16-2, 12-2 SWAC) added another feather to its cap after beating Snow College 3-1 in the Region 18 championship game.
Reika Yuba gave SLCC a first-half lead with a 33rd-minute goal. The Bruins' defense controlled much of the first half, limiting the Badger's attack and making Elle Rafajko's job in goal a little easier.
Kenadee Thomas gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead when a rebound came right to her inside the six-yard box. Thomas headed the ball past the outstretched fingers of Haley Ogden for a two-goal lead.
Minutes later, Rafajko got tangled up with a Badger forward, earning a yellow card that set up a penalty kick. Ali Spencer cut the lead in half when she beat Rafajko on the PK.
Leading 2–1 with time ticking away, Nao Yamada unleashed a shot from distance that beat Ogden top shelf for the 3-1 win.
Rafajko stood tall in goal, lifting her team to the Western District title game.
