TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 18, 2022) – The No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Volleyball team couldn't have had a better start to the 2022 season.

Facing off against No. 6 Miami Dade in the opening match of the '2022 UFirst Intermountain Invitational', the Bruins picked up a 3-1 win over the longtime NJCAA contender. Salt Lake earned the victory with set scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19.

After falling in the first set, SLCC responded by sweeping the remainder of sets for the win. The Bruins limited Miami Dade to a hitting percentage of just 0.156, forcing 18 errors.Â
"I was proud of our whole team," said Bruins coach Shay Goulding Meurer. "We stayed patient, played smart, and figured out a way to win against a tough team."Â

Sammy Perry finished with a standout performance for Salt Lake, leading the team with 15 kills and 15 digs.
Brenley Hansen contributed 12 kills.
Laura Fiabane had 48 assists for SLCC in the impressive win.
Kanon Miyaki had a team-high three aces.Â

The Bruins will continue play in the home tournament Friday, facing off against Western Wyoming at 2:00 p.m.
