No. 4 SLCC Men’s Soccer downs No. 5 Iowa Western, advances to NJCAA semifinals

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 15, 2022) – For the third time in three seasons, the No. 4 Salt Lake Community College Men's Soccer team is headed to the NJCAA semifinals.

SLCC earned a 2-0 win over No. 5 Iowa Western in Melbourne, Florida, on Tuesday, earning a spot in Thursday's semifinals in the NJCAA Division-I Men's Soccer Championships. The Bruins are now 14-1-1 overall.

Salt Lake will continue playing for its second national championship in 18 months, largely thanks to the exploits of Ty Sanchez. Sanchez utilized a Santiago Delfino pass in the 18th minute to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead at halftime, then netted an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.

SLCC held a 9-4 edge in total shots, then utilized the defense of goalkeeper Ben Williams to earn the win. Williams made a pair of saves in the match.

The Bruins will now play No. 7 Arizona Western at 7:00 p.m. EST on Thursday. SLCC fell to Arizona Western in last year's NJCAA semifinals, ending Salt Lake's then-undefeated season in a 2-0 loss.
