Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 13, 2022) – The No. 10 Salt Lake Community College Women's Soccer team couldn't have started the NJCAA Division-I Women's Soccer Championships any better Sunday.
Opening play in 'Pool C' of the tournament in Georgia, SLCC rolled to a 3-1 win over No. 3 Butler Community College, earning a crucial win in both the pool's points and goal differential. With the victory, the Bruins now are the leaders in the pool, with one match remaining in pool play. The highest point earner in each pool will advance to the NJCAA semifinals.
It was Butler who took the early advantage, posting a goal in the 12
th minute to take a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Bruins came firing back in the second half as Aly Starbuck scored an unassisted goal in the 70
th minute to tie the match. Braelyn Baclayon scored off a Jordan Roe assist in the 83
rd minute to give SLCC the lead, then Roe connected with Lexi Vernsey on another goal just minutes later to provide the knockout punch.
SLCC dominated the match offensively, holding a 26-5 edge in total shots. Roe posted eight shots alone, while Roe took five shots. SLCC goalkeeper Theresa Wiesiolek also posted three saves in the match.
Salt Lake will face off against No. 6 Monroe Community College on Monday, with pool play concluding on Tuesday. The NJCAA semifinals are scheduled to begin Thursday, with the NJCAA championship match taking place on Saturday.
