No. 4 SLCC Men’s Soccer earns close win to open NJCAA tournament

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (November 13, 2022) – The 2022 NJCAA Division-I Men's Soccer Championships are officially underway in Florida.
 
No. 4 Salt Lake Community College opened the tournament in splendid fashion Sunday, posting a 2-1 win over No. 9 Eastern Oklahoma State to hold the early edge in 'Pool D' of the competition. SLCC has a single match left in pool competition, with the top team from each pool advancing to Thursday's semifinals. The Bruins are now 13-1-1 overall. 
 
In a match between two national powers, Eastern Oklahoma State took a lead in the 30th minute on an Ian Cowie goal. Not to be outdone, the Bruins responded with a Ty Sanchez unassisted score in the 32nd minute to tie the match at 1-1. With the match coming down to the final minutes, Damien Arguello found Blake Bastian for the winning goal in the 85th minute.
 
SLCC held an 11-7 advantage in total shots, while Bruins goalkeeper Ben Williams had a standout performance with a pair of saves. Salt Lake allowed Eastern Oklahoma State only three shots-on-goal.
 
Salt Lake will play No. 5 Iowa Western on Tuesday in Melbourne, Fla. The NJCAA championship match is scheduled for Saturday.
