Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 21, 2021) - The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer program opened defense of their NJCAA national title with a thrilling win Saturday.

SLCC earned a 1-0 win over Eastern Florida State College at Zions Bank Stadium, scoring in the first half and holding out defensively in the second half. Taimu Okiyoshi scored an unassisted goal in the 40th minute, providing a breakthrough score in the defensive battle.

It was Eastern Florida that actually held the advantage in total shots (11-8), while Salt Lake held a 4-3 edge in shots-on-goal. SLCC's Christian Olivares finished with a trio of saves in the shutout win.

Salt Lake will play a match at No. 20 Monroe Community College on Wednesday, with a Friday match scheduled against No. 13 Monroe College.
