TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 17, 2021) – The nationally-acclaimed Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program made a big addition to its coaching staff this week.
The Bruins announced the hire of former Utah Royals coach Amy LePeilbet, a longtime fixture in the soccer world who won Olympic Gold for Team USA in the 2012 London Olympics. Before joining SLCC in recent weeks, LePeilbet most recently served as the interim head coach for the Utah Royals.
Kevin Dustin, SLCC's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreation, said adding a coach of LePeilbet's caliber speaks to the quality of the Salt Lake program.
"Amy is a great addition to our coaching staff and her presence will be a tremendous asset to our department," he said. "Her experience as a professional player and coach will have an immediate impact. More importantly, Amy reflects the values of SLCC and will be an outstanding role model to our athletes. The synergy between Amy and Coach Ulrich was obvious from the beginning. We are excited to have her onboard."
A graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in Sociology, LePeilbet served as an assistant coach from 2018-20 with the Royals, focusing on player development. She also coached the Royals FC Reserves, a development team associated with the program.
Her playing experiences are well-noted, with LePeilbet playing a role on the U.S. Women's National Team from 2004 through 2013. Her notable accomplishments include the Olympic success in London, along with helping Team USA to a silver finish in the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany. She was an All-American at Arizona State, along with earning CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
The longtime women's soccer fixture said Salt Lake provided the perfect option for her to continue her coaching career.
"I'm very excited to join the women's soccer program at Salt Lake Community College," LePeilbet said. "I love Salt Lake City and SLCC is an integral part of our community. We have the opportunity to make a real impact and prepare these young women for great things both on and off the soccer field. I'm looking forward to a great fall season.
LePeilbet is the second notable hire for a SLCC program that has had a summer full of success. Shortly after finishing as the NJCAA national runner-up in early June, SLCC announced Bruins assistant
Cassie Ulrich would ascend to the head coaching position, leading Salt Lake after a stellar tenure assisting
Mark Davis.
Ulrich said adding another experienced coach like LePeilbet would only add to the level of preparation for Salt Lake's student-athletes.
"I'm incredibly excited to have Amy join our staff," she said. "It's really hard to match Amy's knowledge of the game with her professional career and her previous coaching roles with the US Youth National Teams and in the NWSL.
"Amy will play a massive role in the development of our players at SLCC. Not only that, but Amy is a champion. She knows what it takes to compete on the biggest stages and will be a tremendous asset in building the culture of a nationally successful program each year."
SLCC is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Saturday, August 21 against Eastern Florida State College.
