TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 19, 2021) - The No. 2 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program claimed one of the nation's strongest honors Wednesday - the honor of downing a nationally-ranked, in-state foe for a regional championship title.
Ashlyn Hall scored a goal in the 83rd minute to power the Bruins to a 1-0 win over No. 4 Snow College in Wednesday's Region 18 championship match. In a battle of nationally-ranked foes, separated by less than 150 miles in a state that has long produced soccer success, SLCC will now advance to host this weekend's NJCAA West District championship.
Hall's goal capped a slow-rising crescendo of play in a tightly-contested match, with the Bruins holding a narrow 9-6 margin in shots-on-goal and a 16-10 edge in total shots. Defense ruled the day in the contest, with SLCC goalie
Carli Jager making six saves in the shutout victory.
Details on the upcoming NJCAA West Region tournament will be announced later in the week.
