TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 25, 2021) - History occurred Saturday as the Salt Lake Community College Beach Volleyball program took to the sand for the first time in 2021.
The Bruins played well in their inaugural campaign, finishing with a competitive 4-1 loss to the University of Utah. SLCC is playing a minimal schedule in 2021, thanks to the abbreviated competition seasons for all NJCAA sports.
Salt Lake's lone win came thanks to
Sammi Johnston and
Jessa Gines, who defeated Utah's Marissa Koch and Grace Andrews by scores of 21-18, 19-21, and 15-13.
Gwen Russell and
Kenadee Christensen fell in a 2-0 loss, with
Hikialani Kaohelaulii and
Anastasia Tuifua dropped a 2-0 decision.
Charley Turner and
Hailey Ross also lost a 2-0 decision.
The Bruins were the last team Utah faced in the regular season, with the Utes headed to the Pac-12 championships.Â
