Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (January 22, 2021) - The Salt Lake Community College volleyball team earned a split on the 2021 season's opening day of matches.
The Bruins split their day in a tournament in Casper, Wyo., falling in an early match to Northeastern College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-14), before claiming a 3-1 win (25-23, 25-15, 28-30, 25-21) in the nightcap over host Casper College. SLCC's overall record is 1-1 after the day's matches.
Salt Lake will play Miles Community College at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Northeastern 3, Salt Lake 0: A tight second set did little to help the Bruins' causes as Salt Lake played its first competitive match in 14 months.Â
The Bruins were swept in the season-opening match, with SLCC's Rachel Warren providing some highlights for Salt Lake. Warren finished with a hitting percentage of .400 with nine kills and four blocks.
Salt Lake 3, Casper 1: The Bruins regrouped after the morning loss, powering to a strong win over host Casper.
Highlights were many in the strong SLCC victory, starting with
Gwen Russell leading the team with 14 kills, 10 digs and an ace.
Halle Livingston also had 11 kills to help Salt Lake offensively. On the defensive side, Sammi Johnson finished with 10 digs and a pair of aces, while Hikialani
Kaohelaulii led the team with 20 digs.
Sidney Frith had a team-high 25 assists.Â
