TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 24, 2019) - On their way to a battle of nationally-ranked foes to open conference play Thursday, the No. 9 Salt Lake Community College volleyball team had a bump in the road in a match against Western Wyoming Community College Tuesday.
Riding a four-game winning streak, the Bruins were downed 3-1 by Western Wyoming in their final preseason match, falling by scores of 16-25, 20-25, 25-19, 22-25 inside the Lifetime Activities Center. The loss drops Salt Lake to 17-5 overall.
The Bruins started the first set of the match slow as Western Wyoming took an early 6-3 Salt Lake lead and stretched it to 21-15 just moments later. Salt Lake took an early lead in the second set before going on a run to claim the set. SLCC claimed the third set thanks to a 12-5 run midway through to cut the set deficit to 2-1. Finally, down 22-21 to WWCC in the fourth set, Salt Lake had a service error that gave Western Wyoming the needed edge to push forward to the win.
Kaitlynn Bradley held a career-high 11 kills, while
Bruna Correa had 27 assists.
Ariane Pola had 9 kills.
Salt Lake will open Scenic West play on Thursday with nationally-ranked USU Eastern. The Bruins will also face Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday. Both matches will take place in the Lifetime Activities Center.Â
