No. 5 SLCC Women's Soccer stays undefeated, downs USU Eastern

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 12, 2019) - A long layoff did little to affect the No. 5 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program in its Scenic West Athletic Conference opener.

After all, the Bruins hadn't played since August 24 in a breakaway 6-2 win over Pima Community College. A multi-week layoff did nothing to stop one of the nation's top programs as SLCC earned a 3-1 win over in-state rival USU Eastern to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play Thursday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. The win helps Salt Lake to a 3-0 overall record and a mark of 1-0 in the Scenic West.

SLCC got on the scoreboard just minutes into the match as Cassidy Adams scored her first goal of the day in the 7th minute to give Salt Lake an early 1-0 lead. Adams would later score on a Baylie Saunders assist in the second half to up the advantage to 2-0. After a USU Eastern goal minutes later cut into the Salt Lake lead, Samantha Tippetts scored on an assist from Adams to clinch the match for the Bruins.

In a match that went back-and-forth, SLCC held a narrow advantage in shots with a 14-9 tally. Defense also played a large role in the victory as Siuana Pauni made 4 saves in the match to help the Bruins earn the victory.

Salt Lake will host another Scenic West Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday, albeit in Taylorsville at the Lifetime Activities Center. The Bruins will play Colorado Northwestern Community College in a league match that is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
