No. 5 SLCC Men's Soccer enters Scenic West opener Thursday

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 11, 2019) - The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team will start Thursday's Scenic West Athletic Conference opener with a large amount of momentum.

After all, the Bruins are riding high after opening the preseason at 2-0-1, making them the highest-ranked team in the Scenic West. Now, in advance of the opener against in-state rival USU Eastern, SLCC is looking to find a new way to use the rocket of their momentum as a catapult to even-greater heights.

Salt Lake coach Mark Davis said his team is excited for the opportunity that awaits them in conference play.

"We are very excited to start conference play," he said. "We know we have to be at our very best every game. The players are ready. The SWAC is a very tough conference."

Thursday's opponent - USU Eastern - opened the 2019 season with a mark of 2-0-2, earning wins over Sheridan College and Victor Valley College. The Eagles have scored 6 goals this season. Salt Lake will play Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday, facing a Spartans team that picked up its first win in program history with a 1-0 win over Western Wyoming to open the season.

SLCC will play Thursday's SWAC opener against USU Eastern at 1:00 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, with Saturday's match scheduled to take place at 9:00 a.m. against Colorado Northwestern at the SLCC campus in Taylorsville. Both matches will be live-streamed via the Scenic West Network.
