No. 5 SLCC Women's Soccer prepared for Scenic West opener Thursday

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 10, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team may have only played a pair of games but national voters have taken notice of the Bruins.

Not only is SLCC ranked at No. 5 in the country, the Bruins are also sitting at the top of a loaded Scenic West Athletic Conference as the team prepares for its SWAC opener on Thursday with in-state rival USU Eastern. The team will also play Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday.

SLCC coach Mark Davis said his team is excited for the challenge of Scenic West play.

"We are very excited to start conference play," he said. "We know we have to be at our very best every game. The players are ready. The SWAC is a very tough conference."

Salt Lake will have a tough opener on Thursday as the Eagles are a league-best 5-0 entering the match. USU Eastern earned three wins in a tournament hosted by Southern Nevada, including a 5-0 win over Arizona Western College. Colorado Northwestern is 0-1 on the season and will play its league-opener against newly-minted Scenic West member Truckee Meadows.

The Bruins will play their Scenic West opener simultaneously with their home opener and the match against USU Eastern is scheduled to be played at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, with a scheduled time of 3:00 p.m. Saturday's 11:00 a.m. match against Colorado Northwestern will be played on the SLCC campus in Taylorsville.
