Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 29, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College volleyball team was victorious in its home opener Thursday, staying undefeated on the young season with a non-conference victory.
The Bruins earned a 3-1 win over Central Wyoming College during the annual 'Bruin Bash' on campus Thursday, falling in the first set before clinching the next three sets. The win helps SLCC to a 5-0 record to start the 2019 season.
Salt Lake struggled early in the match, falling 20-25 in the opening set before earning a tight 25-23 win in the second set. The Bruins then stepped on the accelerator, winning the third set, 25-18, before earning a controlling 25-16 win in the final set. In a match that was close statistically, SLCC held a narrow 45-41 edge in kills and forced Central Wyoming into committing 30 errors.Â
Several Bruins continued strong individual starts to the season as
Bruna Correa led the team with 27 assists.
Ariane Pola and
Kenadee Christensen both finished with double-digit kills, as Pola led with 14 kills.Â
Salt Lake will host the annual "Bruin 'Inn'vitational" on Friday and Saturday inside the Lifetime Activities Center, featuring top regional competition. The Bruins will play Western Nebraska at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and will host matches against Treasure Valley Community College and Western Wyoming Community College on Saturday.Â
