TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 27, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College volleyball team is full of energy after finishing their opening weekend tournament at 4-0 and now the Bruins are shifting their focus towards a full week of games inside the Lifetime Activities Center.
SLCC will host Central Wyoming College on Thursday in its home opener before playing three matches over the course of the weekend in the annual Labor Day "Crystal 'Inn'vitational". The tourney will predominantly feature regional opponents, with SLCC's opponents including Western Nebraska, Treasure Valley and Western Wyoming.
After last weekend's success, Bruins coach
Sue Dulaney said she is excited by where her team is at so early in the season.
"We want to build off the past weekend's success," she said, referring to her team's three set sweeps.Â
The Bruins defeated a nationally-ranked opponent (Northeastern) last weekend and are looking forward to similar success this weekend against more regional foes. Central Wyoming went 2-2 in tournament action in Richfield last weekend, while Western Nebraska is 1-2 with games this week on its way to SLCC. Western Wyoming also played in the tournament in Richfield last weekend.
Dulaney said this weekend's opponents will give her players good tests as they progress through their preseason conditioning.
"We are excited to be home and play in front of our family and friends," she said. "I hope everyone can make our opening match on Thursday night at 7 pm vs. Central Wyoming."
Salt Lake's match against Central Wyoming will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bruins will play Western Nebraska at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, before following up with Treasure Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and Western Wyoming at 5:00 p.m.Â
