Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 23, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College volleyball team opened their 2019 season with a bang on Friday, earning a sweep of two matches in a Wyoming preseason tourney.

SLCC picked up a 3-2 win over Northeastern College (25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-12) and a 3-0 win over Casper College (25-17, 25-11, 25-18). The wins help the Bruins start the year with a 2-0 record. Northeastern is currently ranked at No. 14 in the NJCAA preseason polls, giving SLCC an early win over a nationally-ranked opponent. . 

Salt Lake will play more matches in the Casper College tourney on Saturday, playing at 12:00 p.m. against Northwest College and at 4:00 p.m. versus Sheridan College. SLCC's home opener is against Central Wyoming on Thursday, Aug. 29. The Bruins will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on September 26 against USU Eastern. 

Salt Lake 3, Northeastern 2: A strong comeback in the fourth set helped the Bruins claw out a five-set victory in their first match of the season.

SLCC started hot in the match, posting five blocks in the first set, before No. 14 Northeastern regained momentum in the second set. The Bruins matched the intensity in the fourth set, eventually earning the close fifth set victory. Hikialani Kaohelaulii led the team with 28 digs, while Kaitlynn Bradley had 13 kills and hit .478 with 11 blocks. Overall, Salt Lake finished with 43 kills in the victory.

Salt Lake 3, Casper 0: The Bruins rolled through home-hosting Casper College, earning their first set sweep of the young season.

SLCC controlled the match from the beginning, powering ahead with 31 kills and a season-high 9 aces. Kenadee Christensen and Allie Beck both finished with 7 kills to lead the team, while Kaitlynn Bradley had 6 kills. Defensively, Salt Lake also had 12 blocks in the match; individually, Talia Myers led the team with 6 blocks.
