Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 22, 2019) - The expectations for the No. 14 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer program are high, especially after the Bruins rose as high as No. 2 in the 2018 NJCAA rankings.
The Bruins proved themselves to be worthy of their high ranking Thursday in their season opener at Paradise Valley Community College in Arizona, powering to a 5-0 victory over the Pumas. The win helps SLCC start the season with a 1-0 record.
Salt Lake jumped on Paradise Valley early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute of the match. Overall, SLCC would lead 4-0 at halftime, showcasing offensive efficiency and crispness. The Bruins added another goal in the second half to put an exclamation point on the dominating performance.
While the victory is sweet, SLCC will have little time to celebrate its season-opening win as the Bruins will play at No. 1 Pima Community College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Tucson. Salt Lake's home opener at Zions Bank Stadium is scheduled for Sunday, September 1 against Northeastern Junior College. The Bruins will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 12 against in-state rival USU Eastern.Â
