No. 5 SLCC Women's Soccer earns road win at USU Eastern

Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 5, 2019) - It is hard for the hunted to hide from challengers and the No. 5 Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team has no shortage of challengers these days.

The nationally-ranked Bruins were able to best an in-state challenger on Saturday, earning a 3-1 road victory over in-state rival USU Eastern. The win lifts Salt Lake's overall record to 8-0-1 and 5-0-1 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

It was USU Eastern who struck first, earning a goal in the opening minutes that went just over the hands of Siuana Pauni. However, SLCC responded minutes later as Cassidy Adams scored on a play that had many different Bruins involved. Tied at 1-1, Salt Lake scored another goal soon after; this time, it was Dominique Estrada who delivered a strike into the net's back. Now holding a lead, Hannah Lee scored the final SLCC goal in the 60th minute.

Salt Lake coach Mark Davis said the win was a sign of maturity from his players.

"We are very proud of the girls," he said. "They played our style the entire 90 minutes. They handled adversity, overcame it, and played our brand of soccer. It was a big result and sets the tone going into the upcoming weekend."

Salt Lake will return home to Zions Bank Stadium for a match Thursday against the College of Southern Nevada. The Bruins will also host in-state rival Snow College on Saturday.
