No. 3 SLCC Men's Soccer to face USU Eastern in Region 18 tourney semis Friday

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 30, 2019) – The No. 3 Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team has little it needs to dress up this Halloween, especially after the regular season the program had. However, with the postseason beginning Friday, every step must be taken with caution.

For the second consecutive season, the Bruins will host the Region 18 championships at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman as the Scenic West Athletic Conference's regular-season champion, propelling forward to a perfect 10-0 mark in league play this season. The team will hope to avenge a loss it suffered in last year's tournament, looking to make its first NJCAA tourney appearance.

The tournament will open for the Bruins with a match against USU Eastern on Friday at 11:00 a.m., in a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds. Salt Lake swept through the Eagles this season, earning victories of 8-0 and 3-2.

SLCC coach Mark Davis said the tournament opener against USU Eastern will be a tough matchup.

"We are excited for the upcoming week as some of our starters who have been sitting out due to injury are back and even healthier than before," he said. "Both teams had a great week of trainings last week and are hungry for the region tournament. Having a week off has allowed us to prepare for these two games. The staff and the players have said we take every day one day a time.

"This week off has brought us closer than before and our culture is in a great place. Both programs are dialed in and focused."

The other semifinal will feature No. 2 Snow College and No. 3 Southern Nevada. The Bruins earned wins against both opponents this year, outscoring CSN by a margin of 7-1 in a pair of victories. The margin over Snow was slimmer as Salt Lake held just a 3-1 edge over the Badgers.

Salt Lake's semifinal matchup with USU Eastern is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. Saturday's Region 18 final is also scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
