SLCC Volleyball takes to road to face national power, regional rival

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 3, 2019) - For whatever ups-and-downs the Salt Lake Community College women's volleyball team may have had during the preseason, the Bruins took the challenges of Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a veteran savvy.

Salt Lake, who is ranked at No. 9 in the NJCAA rankings, swept the first weekend of league play by earning a 3-1 victory over nationally-ranked USU Eastern and a 3-0 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College. The victory helped the Bruins take an early lead in the Scenic West standings, giving the team much confidence in advance of a matchup with nationally-ranked Snow College and the College of Southern Nevada.

SLCC coach Sue Dulaney said her team is in a good place heading into this weekend's challenging schedule.

"We are heading into our second week of conference play and currently we lead the conference," she said. "Our individual roles and team goals have been defined and help us to stay focused. This group is a competitive, coachable and cohesive unit who have been fun to coach."

The Bruins will face two teams in different places this weekend. First, Snow College is the highest-ranked team in the Scenic West, coming in at No.6 in the latest NJCAA rankings. The Badgers are 20-2, riding a nine-match winning streak into Thursday evening's matchup. Snow is 1-0 in league play, thanks to a sweep of Southern Nevada. The Lady Coyotes are on a six-match winning streak and were swept by Snow in the league openers for both programs last Saturday. Southern Nevada is just 3-5 at home entering the weekend.

Salt Lake will face off against Snow College in Ephraim on Thursday, with a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m. The Southern Nevada match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the CSN Sports Center in North Las Vegas.
