TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 2, 2019) - The Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team is used to being on top of the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, so it should surprise no one that SLCC is currently there.
The Bruins are currently ranked at No. 5 in the NJCAA rankings, with the team looking to defend its Region 18 title from a season ago. Salt Lake is 6-0-1, owner of the best record in the Scenic West, and holds a narrow lead over Snow College in the league standings.
Still, with two road matches upcoming for the Bruins, SLCC coach
Mark Davis noted the importance of this week's matches as the team continues to defend its league titles.
"This will be a big weekend for our players, traveling to Colorado and Price," he said. "This will be our fifth consecutive game on the road. The players will be ready to go and we are looking forward to an important week of training."
Salt Lake's opponents will bring a variety of different challenges. First, the Bruins will face Colorado Northwestern Community College in a road match on Thursday, with CNCCÂ having yet to win a match this season. SLCC will face in-state rival USU Eastern in Price on Saturday; the Bruins earned a 3-1 win over the Eagles in the Scenic West opener for both programs. CNCC is last in the league standings, while USU Eastern is third behind Salt Lake and Snow.
The Bruins will play Colorado Northwestern at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Saturday's match against USU Eastern is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start. Salt Lake's next home match at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman is scheduled for October 10 against the College of Southern Nevada.Â
