TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 4, 2018) - Nine matches in and things are right on schedule for the No. 15 Salt Lake Community College volleyball program.
Through two weekends of tournaments and a one-off match against an Arizona power, the Bruins are sitting at a perfect 9-0, earning tournament titles in both Wyoming and at home over Labor Day weekend. Salt Lake also downed two top-five opponents along the way, wins that should bolster their case to move up in the national rankings.
All-in-all, the Bruins are sitting in prime position as they prepare for their third straight weekend of preseason tournaments, with the program traveling to Twin Falls, Idaho, for a tournament hosted by Scenic West rival Southern Idaho. SLCCÂ will play four matches over two days, playing programs primarily from the northwestern United State.
Salt Lake coach
Sue Dulaney said her program is in good shape heading into the weekend.
"We are half way through the preseason and I've learned a couple things about this team," she said.Â
The Bruins start their tourney on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. with a match against Southwestern Oregon Community College. SOCCÂ plays its opening match on Wednesday, followed up by its tournament appearance in Idaho. Salt Lake will also face Treasure Valley Community College at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, with TVCC starting the season at 6-0. Saturday's matches will come against Northwest College, who SLCC has already defeated 3-0 on the season, and Casper College.
Dulaney said the goals for this weekend's tournament is to continue to build upon the lessons the team has learned in training.
"(Our team) can get up on a team by six-or-seven points, then allow them to come back," she said. "We need to reduce unforced errors, especially when we have a huge lead."
The Bruins will play their final tournament of the season in Las Vegas from Sept. 14-15, with Scenic West Athletic Conference play starting on Sept. 21 against USU Eastern in Price.Â
