Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 21, 2018) - The No. 5 Salt Lake Community College volleyball team understands that conference play is really where it all begins.

The Bruins began Scenic West Athletic Conference play with a rousing win, defeating in-state rival USU Eastern 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-23). After falling in the opening set, Salt Lake was able to take control of the match. SLCC's record rises to 17-1 overall with the win, and a 1-0 record in the SWAC.

USU Eastern earned the victory in the first set before Salt Lake took control of the match. The Bruins utilized an attack percentage of .241, finishing with 50 kills and only 15 hitting errors. In stark contrast, the Eagles finished with 30 hitting errors. Hellen Lacava and Dawson Day finished tied for the lead with 15 kills.

Defensively, Salt Lake held USU Eastern to a negative hitting percentage in the third set, with the Eagles finishing with a -.033 percentage. Salt Lake also had nine blocks in the match. Callie Whitney led SLCC with 19 digs.

Salt Lake will play at Colorado Northwestern Saturday, with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
