Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 15, 2018) - The No. 4 Salt Lake Community College volleyball program got back on track Saturday.
After falling for the first time in the 2018 season, the Bruins returned to the College of Southern Nevada for their final two preseason matches, earning a 3-0 victory over No. 11 Western Nebraska (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) and a 3-0 victory over Arizona Western (25-21, 25-16, 25-20). With the victories, Salt Lake finished the preseason at 16-1, matching their best program start since the 2007 season.
SLCCÂ will open conference play next weekend, playing against Colorado Northwestern and USU Eastern to start Scenic West Athletic Conference play. Salt Lake's league home opener will come on Sept. 28 against in-state rival Snow College.
Salt Lake 3, Western Nebraska 0: For the second time in the preseason, the Bruins swept No. 11 Western Nebraska.
Hellen Lacava led the team with 14 kills, with
Ariane Pola and
Ryley Daniel finishing with 7 kills. SLCC held a 40-27 advantage in kills, forcing WNCC into 12 hitting errors. Salt Lake also held a block party in the match, posting a 10-2 advantage in blocks.Â
Salt Lake 3, Arizona Western 0: SLCC's 36 kills helped the Bruins overwhelm yet another opponent in Vegas.
The Bruins finished the match with a hitting percentage of .404, holding a hitting efficiency rating of .292. Lacava led Salt Lake with 9 kills, while
Lauryn Ritchie contributed 7 kills. Â
Bruna Correa led the team with 32 assists, while
Callie Whitney, the reigning SWACÂ Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 10 digs.Â
