TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 18, 2018) - The No. 3 Salt Lake Community College volleyball program is trying to continue building upon the momentum they've carried all season.
Heading into a two-match road trip, including one at nationally-ranked Snow College, the Bruins were aiming to get off to a good start with a victory over the College of Southern Nevada Thursday. SLCC found a way to accomplish that goal with ease, sweeping Southern Nevada 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 to earn the sweep of the Coyotes. The win lifts Salt Lake's overall record to 25-1 and 8-0 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Salt Lake actually trailed in the first set, 16-15, before tying the match on a
Hellen Lacava kill. From there, SLCC went on a 6-0 run from there to take control of the match, with three more Lacava kills setting the pace. After CSN made a run to come back, a
Dawson Day kill finished the match with a Bruins victory.
From there, SLCCÂ controlled the match with a mix of offense and defense, limiting the Coyotes to a .143 hitting average while holding an 8-2 advantage in service aces. Salt Lake also took advantage of 18 CSN errors.Â
Lacava led SLCC with 12 kills, while
Jensyn Turner contributed 3 aces. Salt Lake libero
Callie Whitney led the team with 17 digs.
Salt Lake will have another important matchup Saturday, as they travel to play No. 5 Snow College at 3:00 p.m. in Ephraim. SLCC has a two-match lead over the Badgers in the Scenic West standings, with just two matches left for both programs.Â
