Box Score TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 13, 2018) - There are some statistics that illustrate the sheer dominance a program is experiencing.
For instance, the No. 3 Salt Lake Community College earned its sixth consecutive sweep on Saturday, earning a 25-15, 25-23, 25-20 victory over USU Eastern. The dominant performance moves SLCC's overall record to 24-1 and a perfect 7-0 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference. The number of set-sweeps is now up to 17 matches on the season for the Bruins.
After SLCC's impressive performance in the first set, USU Eastern came back to take a 17-16 lead in the second set. However, a
Lauryn Ritchie kill, followed up by a Holland Vande Merwe service ace, lifted Salt Lake into the lead in the set. An
Ariane Pola kill finished off the narrow 25-23 victory for the Bruins.
The two in-state rivals went back-and-forth in the third set before Ritchie started a 5-0 rally to end the set, after Salt Lake led 20-19. The Bruins dominated the match offensively, holding a 47-33 edge in kills. SLCC held a hitting percentage of .290.
Hellen Lacava had another standout performance, helping SLCC with a team-high 16 kills.
Bruna Correa had a team-high 9 digs, while also contributing 35 assists.
Salt Lake will head out on the road for next weekend for another series of league action, with matches against Southern Nevada and nationally-ranked Snow College. The Bruins will play Southern Nevada on Thursday, with a Saturday match at Snow.
