TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 7, 2017) – The Salt Lake Community College women's soccer program has an opportunity to make some noise in 2017.
Â
Coming off a 2016 season where the Bruins went 9-2-5, Salt Lake is already at 2-1, with a chance to add some conference victories to the tally this weekend. SLCC hosts Colorado Northwestern in a two-match SWAC opener at the Taylorsville Campus this weekend.
Â
The Bruins battled to a 3-1 victory over the Iowa Western Reviers last weekend, earning a signature preseason win against the nation's sixth-ranked team in national preseason polls. Their only loss of the season to this point? A 2-1 decision to fourth-ranked Laramie County, in Laramie.
Â
While Salt Lake didn't earn any votes in the national preseason rankings, the strong results so early in the 2017 campaign have given SLCC coach
Mark Davis much to smile about as the Bruins prepare for a two-match set this weekend.
Â
"I'm very pleased on where our team is right now," said the second-year coach. "I feel like we are weeks ahead of where I expected us to be at the beginning of the season at this point. We've had a really fun preseason."
Â
SLCC's next match against a nationally-ranked preseason opponent will come on Sept. 22 in Taylorsville, when the Bruins host Snow College. Until then, the focus is on preparing for the Spartans.
Â
"I feel that this team could be something very special," Davis said, referring to the Bruins.
Â
Salt Lake will play Colorado Northwestern at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, and at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Streaming stats for both matches can be found on
