Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 16, 2017) – The Salt Lake Community College Bruin volleyball program picked up another win over a nationally-ranked program Saturday, part of a 2-0 day to close out a preseason tourney hosted by the College of Southern Nevada.

The Bruins earned a dramatic 3-2 win over nationally-ranked Seward County Community College (25-20, 19-25, 19-25, 25-19, 17-15) to open the morning. Salt Lake also picked up a 3-0 win over New Mexico Military Institute (25-16, 25-17, 25-11). The SCCC win figures to help SLCC in the national rankings, with the Saints being ranked at ninth and the Bruins at tenth.

In a preseason that has seen the Bruins be mostly dominant, Salt Lake had to fight back and show resistance to adversity in the win, earning two late set victories after trailing 2-1. The Bruins were helped along the way by 24 combined kills from
To'a Faleao and
Megan Treanor. Salt Lake also had 16 blocks in the win.

The blocks were a mere indication of a mixed performance from the Bruins, combining well-timed offensive efficiency with defensive highlights. Salt Lake's
Alexus Desmarais led SLCC with 20 digs, with the Bruins picking up 83 total digs in the match.

The win against NMMI was another example of preseason dominance for the Bruins, with Salt Lake picking up another 3-0 win – the tenth sweep of the preseason for SLCC. Salt Lake had a hitting percentage of .361 in the match, with
Laken Te'o also posting 18 assists.

The Bruins finished the preseason with a mark of 13-3, maintaining a strong national ranking throughout the preseason. Now its time for Salt Lake Community College to turn its attention to the upcoming SWAC season, as the Bruins open the conference slate Friday with a matchup against in-state rival Snow College.
