Box Score 2 TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (September 1, 2017) – Friday was an up-and-down day for the Salt Lake Community College Bruins volleyball program.

Hosting their annual Crystal "Inn"vitational inside Bruin Arena, the Bruins were matched up against top-ranked Miami Dade along with Northwest College in day-one action of the two-day tourney. The Bruins were able to best Northwest, earning a 3-0 victory over the Trappers, 25-14, 25-15, 27-25. However, SLCC dropped a 3-0 decision to Miami Dade, with the Sharks earning a 29-27, 25-19, 25-12 victory.

The Bruins will play a set of matches on Saturday, with a 9:00 a.m. duel with Otero Junior College and a 1:00 p.m. match with Laramie County Community College. Both matches will be streamed on
live.ksl.com on the SLCC Channel. Live stats will also be available at

SLCC 3, Northwest 0 – Salt Lake powered to a sweep over the Northwest College Trappers, utilizing a dramatic third-set win to earn the victory.

The Bruins trailed the Thrashers in the final set, 24-23, before rattling off consecutive kills from
Sam Filiaga and
Megan Treanor to gain control of the set. A Northwest attack error ended the final set, giving Salt Lake a clean sweep of the action. The Thrasher committed 25 errors in the match, mixed with 5 service errors.

Salt Lake powered to a win thanks to offensive efficiency and defensive prowess, mixing a 37-28 kill advantage with an 11-3 advantage in blocks.
Treanor led all players in the match with a double-double of ten kills and ten assists.

Miami Dade 3, SLCC 0 – The Bruins fell in a narrow loss in the first set to the top-ranked Miami Dade Community College Sharks, setting up a strong performance for the Sharks for the remainder of the match.

Twice Salt Lake had a one-point advantage late in the first set, with only one point remaining to give the Bruins a victory. However, Miami Dade, trailing 26-25 after a
To'a Faleao kill, went on a 4-1 rally to earn the first set win.

From there, it was the Sharks who controlled the tempo and tone of the match. Miami Dade finished with a 44-34 advantage in kills and also had 8 service aces to add to the attack. The Bruins finished with a hitting percentage of just .127, their lowest of the season.

Faleao led the Bruins with six kills in the match.
