Bruins volleyball hosts nationally-ranked foes in 2017 Crystal "Inn"vitational

Defending national champion Miami Dade to play SLCC Friday morning

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (August 31, 2017) – The nationally-ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins volleyball program is riding high entering the 2017 Crystal "Inn"vitational – an annual rite of fall in the junior college volleyball scene.

The Bruins continue to rise in national prestige after a 4-0 start to the season in last week's Crystal Classic. SLCC earned the tournament victory, sweeping Lee College, Casper College and Northeastern Junior College in straight sets. The Bruins and SWAC foe Snow College were the only teams in the tournament to go undefeated.

Several SLCC players also found their way to the top of the Scenic West statistical leaderboard. Salt Lake's Aubrie Steiner is leading the SWAC in kills-per-set after one weekend of play, averaging 2.93.

While the acclaim and encouragement from going 4-0 were satisfying to begin the season, matching the same results will bring even greater excitement to the Salt Lake Valley as the Bruins host several nationally-ranked powers inside Bruin Arena at the Taylorsville Campus. Among the teams in this weekend's tourney are defending national champion Miami Dade and perennial SWAC contender College of Southern Idaho.

While the Bruins won't face CSI in the tourney, the tournament will feature a showdown between nationally-ranked powers Friday as Salt Lake and Miami Dade face off in a match at 10:00 a.m. Both teams faced off in the 2016 NJCAA National Championship tourney, with Miami Dade claiming a 3-0 win over SLCC.

Other participants in the tournament include Northwest, Otero Junior College and Laramie County Community College. The Bruins defeated Northwest in the 2016 national tourney, earning a 3-1 victory.

The Bruins will play Northwest at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, serving as a tantalizing doubleheader of SLCC volleyball action. Salt Lake will play Otero at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the final match of the tournament coming at 1:00 p.m. against Laramie County Community College.

Salt Lake's matches in the Crystal "Inn"vitational will be streamed live at http://live.ksl.com/ on the SLCC Channel. The channel will stream every home match the Bruins play throughout the 2017 season. Additionally, live stats for matches can be found at www.slccbruins.com.
