Bruin Volleyball set for critical match at Southern Idaho

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (October 17, 2017) – With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Salt Lake Community College volleyball program is gearing up for a wild race to the finish.

The Bruins have three matches remaining in their schedule, beginning with a match this weekend against travel partner College of Southern Idaho, as they sit at 5-2 in league play. Coincidently, CSI happens to be the SWAC leader at 6-1 and even more coincidently, their only loss is against Salt Lake Community College.

All of that coincidence means Salt Lake is setting up for an important battle in this week's lone match in Twin Falls, SLCC coach Sue Dulaney said.

The Bruins were on a five-match winning streak prior to last week's sweeping loss at Snow College. SLCC fell 3-0 in Ephraim, giving the Badgers a clear tiebreaker if the programs remain tied at the end of the regular season. Salt Lake has two matches remaining next week, hosting home contests against Colorado Northwestern and Utah State Eastern.

The Golden Eagles sit at 23-2 overall and are recognized as one of the nation's premiere programs. CSI's lone league loss came on Sept. 29 in Salt Lake, with the Bruins sweeping CSI in a match in Bruin Arena. The only other CSI loss came in Salt Lake in a tournament, where the Golden Eagles fell 3-1 to defending national champion Miami-Dade.

Dulaney said the key to this weekend's match will be controlling emotions and energy.

"Everyone has a role to fulfill on this team and when we can all do that," Dulaney said, "our results will end in a win, bottom line."

The Bruins and Golden Eagles will square off Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Twin Falls. A recap will be available later that evening at slccbruins.com.
