ROCK SPRINGS, WY – The No. 8 ranked SLCC volleyball team opened up their 2014 campaign with two impressive wins in the Region 18-Region 9 Clash hosted by Western Wyoming Community College.

In a match that started a little slow, the Lady Bruins first took on Northwest College and defeated the Lady Trappers 3-1 by scores of 25-22, 27-29, 25-19 and 25-21. With many missed serves from both teams, SLCC calmed down and started playing their game. Reigning All-American Carol Grasso (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the way with 23 kills by way of hitting .297.

Setters Rachel Davis (Riverton, UT) and Ailin Donati (Rome, Italy) combined for 53 assists as Mariana Pilon (Sao Paulo, Brazil) chipped in 42 digs on the defensive end.

SLCC's second match of the day featured a quality opponent in No. 10 ranked San Jacinto College and the Lady Bruins wasted no time jumping out to a dominating 2-0 lead with both set scores of 25-19.

SJC answered in the third set with a score of 25-21 over SLCC, but the team refocused as Grasso sent a message to start out the fourth set with a powerful kill to cruise to an impressive 25-15 set leading to a 3-1 match win.

Nicole Peacock (Logan, UT) and Sequoia Lofton (Spokane, WA) each pounded double digit kills for the match with 10 and 13 kills respectively. Davis continued to put up impressive setting numbers adding 35 assists.
