Volleyball:SLCC earns No. 6 seed; open up tournament facing No. 11 Missouri State University-West PlainsCASPER, WY – With region championships decided and the NJCAA National Tournament happening on Nov. 20-22, the NJCAA has announced the tournament field with SLCC placed as the No. 6 seed.
Maintaining where they were in the NJCAA national rankings, the No. 6 seed Bruins will open up in the tournament facing No. 11 seed Missouri State University-West Plains in the tournament's second match on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 9 a.m. inside the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyo. The tournament appearance is the Bruins second consecutive trip and the third in the last five seasons.
"We are honored to be able to return to the National tourney," said Head Coach
Sue Dulaney. "Only 16 teams in the country get that privilege and our focus has to be on execution at this point. We have played eight national bound ranked opponents numerous times this season in preparation for the national tourney. We will be ready!"
Those eight teams that Dulaney are referring to include the tournament's top four seeds in order Iowa Western, Blinn, rival Southern Idaho, and Tyler. To round out the eight are No. 7 seed Western Nebraska, No. 9 Northwest, No. 13 Hill, and No. 15 Hutchinson.
Filling in the other tournament slots are fifth seed Miami Dade, eighth seed State College of Florida, 10
th seed Arizona Western, 12
th seed Polk State, 14
th seed New Mexico Military, and 16
th seed Wallace State.
The last previous matchup between SLCC and MSU-WP occurred last season on Aug. 23, 2013, where the Bruins swept the Grizzlies 25-23, 25-17, and 25-22. Say the Bruins do pull out a victory a rematch of the Region 18 Championship could be looming as SLCC will face the winner of No. 3 Southern Idaho and No. 14 New Mexico Military.
