SALT LAKE CITY – It was a long night for No. 7 Salt Lake Community College as No. 4 College of Southern Idaho struck early and often leading to the 3-0 sweep.

Set one saw the visiting Golden Eagles jump out to an early 4-0 lead and never look back as SLCC never led throughout the set. Clawing their way back into the set, SLCC saw themselves within one with the score at 8-7. CSI then responded by pushing their lead to 13-8 with a 5-1 run and continued to put on the points leading to the 25-18 set win.

The Bruins enjoyed their first leads of the match with scores of 1-0 and 3-2, but those leads were short lived as the Golden Eagles reeled off yet another four point run and never lost the lead again as CSI took a commanding 2-0 advantage with the 25-17 set two victory.

Coming out of the break, SLCC showed some fight with the hitters hammering down kills all over the court. Putting together some runs of their own, midway through the set the Bruins placed themselves in a favorable position with a 12-8 lead. However, back-to-back errors from SLCC gave CSI some momentum back. With the score now at 14-12 in SLCC's favor, the Golden Eagles then put together a match long 8-2 streak to take a commanding lead. Fighting their way back to even at 21-21, a 4-1 CSI run wrapped up the set 25-22 and the 3-0 sweeping victory.

The Bruins now drop to 1-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play and 13-6 overall. Despite the loss, Jessica Quayle (Ogden, UT) played a solid offensive match by putting down 10 kills hitting .474. Carol Grasso (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also added 10 kills, respectively.

Lepeka Kalulu-Sugai and Natasa Savovic paced the Golden Eagles offensively with 11 and 10 kills apiece. Chloe Watson and Pati Anae both added eight kills each to round out the solid team performance.

The Bruins will now have to flush the disappointing loss quickly as they will host North Idaho College tomorrow, Oct. 4, in their annual 'Dig Pink' match. Raising awareness for the ongoing battle against breast cancer, SLCC will wear pink jerseys that will be silently auctioned off during the match. All proceeds raised throughout the night will go to research to find the cure for breast cancer. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside the Bruin Arena.
