SLCC Volleyball Preps to Host Region 18 Championships as No. 1 Overall Seed
Bruins to face either No. 4 seed Snow College or No. 5 seed USU-Eastern in second round
SALT LAKE CITY, UT—The
No. 7-ranked SLCC Volleyball team (22-6, 10-0 SWAC) will host the upcoming Region 18 Volleyball Championships (Nov. 8-9) at Bruin Arena as the
No. 1 overall seed after completing a perfect
10-0 Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) season over the weekend.
As outright SWAC champion, SLCC has earned a first round bye and will face the winner of the
No. 4 seed Snow College (17-9, 5-5 SWAC) vs.
No. 5 seed USU-Eastern (6-19, 2-8 SWAC) in the second round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Bruin Arena.

SLCC is
2-0 against both Snow College and USU-Eastern so far this season. The Bruins defeated Snow College
3-1 on Sept. 27 in Ephraim, UT and topped the Badgers
3-2 on Oct. 19 at Bruin Arena. SLCC picked up a
3-0 win over USU-Eastern on Oct. 11 at home and swept the Golden Eagles
3-0 once more on the road in Price, UT on Nov. 2.
With the win over USU-Eastern on Nov. 2, SLCC completed its first unbeaten
10-0 SWAC season since 2007. SLCC has won five consecutive contests heading into the postseason and seeks its first Region 18 championship since the 2009 season when the team finished ranked
No. 4 in the nation.
All six SWAC teams earn automatic entry into the Region 18 Championships with the tournament following a single-elimination format. The tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in Casper, WY (Nov. 21-22) as the Region 18A representative, with the tournament runner-up also earning an automatic bid as the Region 18B representative.

Bruins by-the-Numbers: Freshman outside hitter
Carol Grasso leads the team and the SWAC in total kills with 414 and averages 3.83 kills per set. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native is also pacing the conference in service aces with 48 and is second on the team in digs with 336.
Sophomore outside hitter
Bailee Kendall (Mt. Pleasant, UT) is second on the squad in kills with 362 and is second on the team in solo blocks with 11. Sophomore setter
Baylie Henrie (Kaysville, UT) leads the Bruins in assists with 858 and is third on the team in digs with 224.
SLCC sophomore libero (defensive specialist)
Indigo Allen (North Salt Lake, UT) leads the team in total digs with 374. The Woods Cross High School graduate is third in the SWAC in that category and averages 3.46 digs per set.
The Bruins are 9-1 within the friendly confines of Bruin Arena this season with a 5-2 mark in away matches and an 8-3 record in neutral-site contests. SLCC is 11-1 in three-set matches, 7-1 in four-set contests and an even 4-4 in games that reach the full allotted five sets.
