SALT LAKE CITY, UT—The No. 7-ranked SLCC Volleyball team (20-6, 8-0 SWAC) defeated Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival No. 8-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) (20-8, 7-2 SWAC) on Saturday at Bruin Arena.

The Bruins topped the Golden Eagles 3-2 in five sets by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18 and 15-13 on Sophomore Day.  With the win, SLCC has clinched hosting rights for the upcoming Region 18 Volleyball Championships Nov. 8-9. The Bruins can finish with no worse than a share of the SWAC championship.

SLCC can clinch the outright SWAC championship with a win over USU-Eastern (5-16, 1-5 SWAC) or Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) (3-23, 0-7 SWAC) in either of its final two contests of the regular season road next weekend.  

The Bruins remain unbeaten in SWAC play and are the only team in the conference without a loss in league action.

Stats vs. CSI: SLCC freshman outside hitter Carol Grasso (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led all players with 20 kills in the contest and completed her fourth consecutive double-double against a ranked opponent with 15 digs on the day.

Bruin sophomore outside hitter Bailee Kendall (Mt. Pleasant, UT) contributed 17 kills and hit for a .312 attacking percentage and sophomore setter Baylie Henrie (Kaysville, UT) had three kills to go with 54 assists and 20 digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Hannah Wade (Stansbury, UT) came off the bench to turn in a five-kill, five-block performance in her final regular season match at Bruin Arena.

SLCC held the Golden Eagles to a .195 attacking percentage and had nine service aces in the win. The Bruins finished the contest with a .237 attacking percentage and 14 team blocks.

Next up for Head Coach Sue Dulaney and the Bruins is an away contest vs. CNCC on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Rangeley, CO. SLCC will close the 2013 regular season with a road matchup against USU-Eastern on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. in Price, UT.
