Coeur d'Alene, ID—No. 7-ranked SLCC Women's Volleyball (16-3, 1-0 SWAC) defeated No. 1-ranked North Idaho College (NIC) (16-1, 0-1 SWAC) 3-2 in five sets on Thursday night. The Bruins won their Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener over the Cardinals by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 and 15-8.
 
The match marked the third time this season that the Bruins have played a No. 1-ranked team, with SLCC going 2-1 in those matchups.
 
SLCC sophomore outside hitter Maddie Bushman (Tucson, AZ) led the Bruin attack with 14 kills, and sophomore middle hitter Mayra Ramirez (Calle, COL) tallied 12 kills in the win. Freshman Anyssa Matheson added eight kills off the bench as the Bruins held the Cardinals to a negative hitting percentage in sets two and five en route to the upset win.
 
Next up for Head Coach Sue Dulaney and SLCC Volleyball is a conference road test at No. 4-ranked College of Southern Idaho (CSI) in Twin Falls, ID on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
 
The SWAC has three teams in the National Junior College Athletic Association Top 25—No. 1 NIC, No. 4 CSI and No. 7 SLCC. Snow College ranks in at No. 16, bringing the SWAC's Top 25 total to four teams currently.
