No. 6 SLCC Volleyball falls to two Top-5 teams at Pizza Hut Invitational

Sterling, CO—The No. 6-ranked Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Women's Volleyball team (15-3) fell to two top-five ranked teams, both in four set matches in day two action at the Pizza Hut Invitational. The Bruins lost to No. 1-ranked Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) (17-1) 19-25, 22-25, 25-16 and 21-25 before dropping the day's second match to No. 4-ranked Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) (14-2) 25-23, 27-29, 17-25 and 12-25.  

SLCC sophomore outside hitter Maddie Bushman (Tucson, AZ) led the way for the Bruins against IWCC with 26 kills and six digs. Freshman outside hitter Bailee Kendall (Mt. Pleasant, UT) had 11 kills, and sophomore setter Cortney Godfrey (West Jordan, UT) had 40 assists. Freshman libero Baylie Henrie (Kaysville, UT) kept the ball alive with a team-high 17 digs.

In the loss to WNCC, Bushman had 17 kills. Sophomore middle hitter Mayra Ramirez (Calle, Columbia) and Kendall each had seven kills as the Bruins lost to WNCC for the second time this season.

Next for SLCC Volleyball is a Scenic West Athletic Conference-opening road trip that includes visits to two more top five-ranked teams. First up is a trip to Coeur d'Alene, ID for a game at No. 2 North Idaho College on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. and then a rivalry matchup with No. 5 College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, ID on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
