No. 6 Bruin Volleyball wins ninth straight match

Sterling, CO—The No. 6-ranked Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Women's Volleyball team (15-1) defeated Otero Junior College (OJC) (13-3) and No. 19-ranked Northeastern Junior College (NJC) (10-7) at the Pizza Hut Invitational on Friday. The Bruins picked up the win over OJC in 3 sets, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-16 before sweeping NJC in straight sets as well by scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-16. The Bruins have won nine straight matches.

SLCC sophomore outside hitter Maddie Bushman (Tucson, AZ) led the Bruins with nine kills, and the Sabino High School graduate turned in three service aces as well. Sophomore middle hitter Mayra Ramirez (Calle, Columbia) tallied eight kills and freshman setter/opposite hitter Camry Godfrey (Layton, UT) had five kills and four aces in the Bruin win over Otero.  

In the SLCC win over No. 19 NJC, Bushman turned in 11 kills and two aces. Ramirez matched Bushman's total of 11 kills and had a solo block, and setter Cortney Godfrey (West Jordan, UT) had 20 assists to go with four aces.

Next up for SLCC Volleyball is another pair of matches at the Pizza Hut Invitational in Sterling on Saturday, Sept. 15. Head Coach Sue Dulaney and the Bruins will take on two top-five teams, No. 1-ranked Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) (16-1) at 10 a.m. and No. 4-ranked Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) (12-2) at 2 p.m.

WNCC is the only team to have a win over SLCC this season. SLCC's contest with IWCC marks the second time this year that the Bruins will have taken on the NJCAA No. 1.
