Salt Lake City—The
No. 5-ranked SLCC Women's Volleyball team (20-5, 5-2 SWAC) defeated Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) rival
No. 6 North Idaho College (NIC) (17-3, 4-3 SWAC) in four sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-17 on Saturday. The Bruins had 11 team blocks to get the important win on Alumni Day, and swept the season series with NIC.
SLCC sophomore middle hitter
Mayra Ramirez (Calle, Columbia) had a team high 15 kills and turned in eight block assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Maddie Bushman (Tucson, AZ) had 13 kills and 20 digs, and freshman outside hitter
Camry Godfrey (Layton, UT) had 11 kills and eight block assists. Sophomore setter
Cortney Godfrey (West Jordan, UT) had 49 assists in the win.
Bruin freshman outside hitter
Desiree Bradshaw (Salt Lake City, UT) provided a spark off the bench when the Bruins trailed by 12 points in a tough third set loss, and carried positive energy for SLCC throughout the final set.
Bradshaw turned in three kills and three block assists on the night and was named player-of-the-game for the first time in her SLCC career.
Next up for the Bruins is a road trip to Price, UT on Friday, Oct. 19 as SLCC will take on the Golden Eagles of USU-Eastern (11-12, 2-4 SWAC) in a SWAC matchup. SLCC defeated USU-Eastern on Sept. 29 in straight sets at home.
