Twin Falls, ID- The 7th ranked SLCC Bruins closed out pre-season play going 2-1 on the final day of the Starr Corp Tournament. Salt Lake took down #4 Miami Dade and #20 Barton County College but fell in five to tournament host #9 Southern Idaho. The Bruins are 13-4 overall and head into SWAC play next weekend against NIC and CSI.
Leyla Redondo led Salt Lake with 15 kills and 14 digs. Kellie Turner and Maddie Bushman each added 10 kills. Mayra Ramirez had a team high eight block assists along with seven kills.
The match up of the night was against tournament host Southern Idaho. Salt Lake and Southern Idaho played a five set back and forth match. Each team traded sets until the fifth set where Southern Idaho grabbed the 15-11 win. Bushman finished with 12 kills with 21 digs; Redondo had 11 kills and Whitney Ashton had a team high 22 digs.
The final match of the night was a three set win over Barton County College. Turner put down 10 kills and Kelsi Meyer added 11 kills. Cortney Godfrey and Betty Van Lith each had 22 set assists in the match.
The Bruin opens up conference play this weekend against Southern Idaho and North Idaho in Bruin Arena.
