TAYLORSVILLE, Utah- After a draw on Friday night, the Bruins capitalized and walked away with a 2-1 victory in overtime against the Eagles of USU- Eastern.
Salt Lake opened the first period dominating in possession getting a shot on goal by
Luis Vargas in the fifth minute. Play went back and forth for the remainder of the half with the game 0-0 going into halftime.
The Bruins came out in the second period putting pressure on the Eagles. A yellow card was called on the Eagles Paco Alcala in the goal box which set up SLCC for a penalty kick.
Kayd Marquez was successful at driving in the kick in the 72
nd minute to put the Bruins on top. With urgency, USU-E started to pound down on the offensive, sneaking one past
Jacob Sollis in the 88
th minute tying the game.
Regulation ended with the score 1-1. The game went into sudden death overtime periods. In the second OT period, there was miscommunication from USU-E which the Bruins were able to capitalize in a
Freddy Villanueva goal to end the game 2-1.
The game was physical with 24 fouls being called on the Eagles and 23 on the Bruins. SLCC took 13 shots seven which were on goal.
"We think the world of our team," Head Coach
Mark Davis said. "They fight and have a lot of character and they will never give up. That is the thing about this group is they will fight till the bitter end."
Salt Lake will hit the road to face Snow College Sept. 23. Kick off will be at 4 p.m.Â
