TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (April 18, 2018) - There were many highlight moments for Salt Lake Community College women's basketball coach
Betsy Specketer in the 2017-18 season.
Adding another Scenic West Athletic Conference title and Region 18 title were at the top of the list for the longtime Bruins coach, but there were other individual accolades for the veteran coach including winning her 500th career game. Specketer's success has long been noted by the SLCC campus community and coaches in NJCAA ranks, but the mixture of individual and team accolades this season perked up the attention of several notable figures from around the state of Utah, including Governor Gary Herbert.
Herbert honored and celebrated Specketer and the Bruins with a signed citation, in a recent presentation at the Gold Room in the Utah State Capitol. Gov. Herbert presented the citation to Specketer, in recognition of her "successes and contributions to the sport of basketball."
Specketer, along with assistant coach
Marcilina Grayer and three players, met with Herbert after the signing ceremony, with members of the Salt Lake Community College administration also participating. Part of the citation reads, "Throughout her 21 years as head coach, she has achieved numerous, remarkable feats, including: many conference and region championship victories, multiple recognitions as "Coach of the Year" for various regions, 7 Junior College National Tournament appearances, and more. She has won more games at a single school than any other basketball coach in Utah - 520 wins to date."
Salt Lake finished the 2017-18 season at 26-6 overall and 10-2 in league play.Â
