Announcing Mark Davis: Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah- The Salt Lake Community College athletic department would like to welcome Head Coach Mark Davis to their family. Creating history as the first ever coach and paving the way for the future, Coach Davis has accepted the role as head coach of the men's and women's soccer team.
 
"We are very excited to welcome Mark and Natalie into the SLCC family," Athletic Director Kevin Dustin said. "When this position was first opened, the individual most recommended by so many of his peers was Coach Davis.  Mark comes to Bruins Athletics with an impressive resume of success on a variety of levels.  His connection to the region and his experience recruiting in Utah and beyond is significant.  Most importantly, his passion for soccer and his desire to start this program from scratch was what set him apart."

Coach Davis has a long history of successful coaching. Over the last three years he has been the head coach for the Seasiders at BYU-Hawaii. He led his men's team to a .609 (15-8-9) overall winning percentage and .740 (15-3-7) percentage in the PacWest. His team has made a top four conference finish three seasons in a row achieving back-to-back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in school history. He was named the PacWest Coach of the Year in 2013. Mark is the all-time winningest coach in BYU-Hawaii men's soccer history.
 
"My first step is building a culture of excellence on and off the field, bringing in players that understand that and will be able to represent the soccer team and the college in the best way," said coach Davis. "A culture where hard work and respect will be the focus of all we do."

Mark has strong ties in Utah, he attended Copper Hills High School where he started on the varsity squad all four years while also serving as the team caption for two years. Davis won a state cup with The Utah Rangers his U 18 year; He also played in the Utah State Olympic Development Program for four years.  Mark Davis is a founder of Olympia Football Club in Heber City, Utah.
 
"I am from the Salt Lake area and it feels great to come home," he said. "I am excited to start a brand new program from scratch and build a culture of excellence on and off the field.  Utah is a great soccer state. We will have lots of success bringing in some of the best talent from local clubs and high schools throughout the state of Utah. We will also focus on looking for talented international students as well."

Mark is the current head coach of Real Salt Lake women's soccer team. He was named the head coach for the 2016 season after serving as the assistant last season.  In 2015 the RSL women won the WPSL Elite National championship.
 
Coach Davis played at Iowa Western College and led the team to a conference championship in 2009. He went on to graduate from BYU-Hawaii and moved to Concordia University-Irvine where he gained his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration.  
 
"Mark knows there are high expectations at SLCC," Dustin said.  "We are confident that he will be able to recruit the kinds of student –athletes and assemble the staff necessary to make Salt Lake Community College very competitive within the SWAC and on the national level very soon.  Great days are ahead for soccer fans in the valley.  It will give another option for high school students to participate in the sport they love while obtaining a great education."

Personal…He served a two-year LDS mission in Tampico, Mexico 2006-08…Fluent in Spanish…Mark is married to his wife Natalie and has two children Dax and Rudy.
