Weber State University Hires SLCC Softball Head Coach Mary Kay Amicone
Bruin head coach moves on after nine seasons at SLCC
Salt Lake City, UT—Weber State University (WSU) Athletics announced the hiring of SLCC Softball Head Coach
Mary Kay Amicone on Monday. Coach
Amicone played two years of collegiate softball at WSU as an outfielder before the program was dropped and she later moved on to the University of Utah.
In nine seasons as head coach at SLCC,
Amicone turned in an overall record of 433-99-2 with a 330-57 win-loss record in Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) play. She led the Bruins to three consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Runner-Up finishes from 2011-2013 and five consecutive finishes ranked inside the top five in the final NJCAA polls.
Amicone led SLCC Softball to its fifth consecutive Region 18 championship this season and guided the Bruins to seven SWAC championships in her time with the Bruins. The team finished no worse than second in the conference during her tenure and averaged 48 wins per season.
Amicone was selected as the Region 18 Coach-of-the-Year four times and was named the National Fast-pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) West Coach-of-the-Year twice. She inherits a Weber State program that finished with a 10-38 overall record this season and was 5-13 in Big Sky Conference competition.
She will have a pair of familiar faces on the pitching staff at Weber State this coming season, with former Bruin
Kylee Colvin (Farr West, UT) already on the WSU roster and current Bruin sophomore standout
MaCauley Flint (Roy, UT) having signed on with the Wildcats earlier this year.
