The SLCC Softball and Baseball programs are no stranger to success--with fantastic success in 2012 coupled with loaded rosters full of talent, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has taken notice. The Bruin Softball program ranks in at
No. 1 in the preseason poll, and Bruin Baseball received a
No. 17 ranking in the first polls of the year.
SLCC Softball ranks in at No. 1 in NJCAA
SLCC Softball is familiar with pressure, having been at or near the top of the NJCAA rankings for the last couple of standout seasons. The Bruins are two-time reigning NJCAA National Runners-Up, and hope to improve on last year's ridiculous win-loss mark of 59-9, 43-5 in the SWAC.
No. 1 SLCC Softball begins play on Jan. 25 in Henderson, NV at the Southern Nevada Kickoff. The Bruins will play a trio of ballgames right out of the gate:
SLCC will open the year against rival Yavapai CC on Jan. 25 at 8:00 a.m., and will do battle with Arizona Western at 10:30 a.m. shortly after. The Bruins will round out a busy tripleheader with a game against Eastern Arizona later that day at 3:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Jan. 26, the Bruins will take on Pima CC at 10:30 a.m. and will then play Glendale CC at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 27, SLCC will face Chattanooga at 8:00 a.m. and will close out the Southern Nevada Kickoff against Chippola at 10:30 a.m.
Bruin Baseball begins 2013 season as nation's No. 17-ranked program
SLCC Baseball begins the year in the NJCAA Top 20, ranking in at
No. 17 in the preseason poll. The Bruins are arguably the most successful collegiate baseball program in the State of Utah over the last few seasons and the team is turning heads again to start this season.
With a loaded roster that features a young pitching staff, the Bruins seek redemption for last year's heartbreaking loss in the District I Playoff to rival Western Nevada. SLCC finished 45-10 overall last year, 31-6 in the hotly contested Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Bruin Baseball starts its season on Jan. 25-27 in Henderson, NV at the annual Coyote Border Battle. The Bruins will open the year against rival Yavapai CC on Friday, Jan. 25 at 2:00 p.m. and will square off with Cochise College on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10:00 a.m. SLCC will close out the season-opening tournament with a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 27, first taking on Glendale at 10:00 a.m. and Arizona Western later that day at 2:00 p.m.
